MY WORLD is a mini-musical which I was commissioned to write by Hampshire Music Service. It debuted at the Royal Albert Hall in 2018, and was sung by a mass choir with a Big Band (jazz). Tom Guyer composed the music.
It tells the story of a cluster of barnacles trying to save their oceans from the monster. It’s a twisted retelling of George and the Dragon, and focuses on pollution.
In December 2018 it’s being produced by The Mayflower, Southampton, and shown at CommOcean. This is an International conference for marine scientists and communicators.

MY WORLD, The Anvil, Spring 2018
Tom and I were invited to a rehearsal for the Royal Alert Hall in Basingstoke. This is when we met the fabulous Sarah Parrish who was narrating the show. Because of time limitations at the RAH I’d had to rewrite the narration so that the story wasn’t told be characters, but by a singular narrator.
Hampshire Music Service produced the show a couple of times in Basingstoke.
SO:TO Speak Scratch night 2017
This was the So:To Speak festival in Southampton in 2017. Tom and I took three singers to perform a pared back version and to check that the concept was strong. We asked the audience to fill in feedback sheets and worked with comments which we felt merited further exploration (as in, more than one person commented on the same thing). It was a very useful exercise.
At this time we had four principle characters, with Tom being the massed choir (on the keyboards in the back of the picture).
